Default Massa wrecks in qualifying

Video

I just read where his surgery went well, but he is still in critical condition. What a freak accident.

I read that the spring that hit him weighed 800 grams or 1.75 lbs. Not a good thing to hit you in the head at 100 MPH. The damage to his head was near his eye socket so I hope he will recover with full vision and no permanent brain issues. Massa is one of the nice guys in F1.

Someone posted this up in off-topic racing forum. Yikes.

I don't know which would be worse - getting clocked in the head or realizing that you were heading straight towards a wall at 70 mph.

That's unreal. Last week, a Formula2 driver, Henry Surtees (son of John Surtees) was killed when a wheel hit him in the head during a race.
