Default Last-minute Columbus Driving Question

My family and I will be driving through Columbus this afternoon, probably about 4:30pm (bad time I suspect, though Friday rush hours aren't so bad in most cities).

Coming down I-71, we want to keep on I-71 through to Cincinnati. At 4:30pm on a Friday, should we detour around downtown and take I-270? I would think that the stretch of I-71 going in to downtown woldn't be so bad, but how about the outbound side on the south? Are the added miles to go around worth it?

I-71 is a mess at 17th ave becasue of a bridge repair. I'd probably jog over 270 to 315 south which runs right into 71 south on the the south side of the city.

Agreed, but the I270 ramp to 315 south is a mess too.

This city has no common sense and tears up all the alternate routes at the same time. Good luck.

Yep, 315 south will help you out.

Thanks, we'll look at 315 South. At that hour, I would guess the ramp from 270 to 315 south shouldn't be too full - traffic should be going the other way mostly.

I'll let you know tonight whether I ever listen to you guys again.

Thanks, guys!

Except for a tiny slowdown at the 315S ramp, it was clear and easy all the way. There were quite a few brake lights at the south side at I-270, but that's it. Being a Friday (and we rolled through later than I thought, maybe about 5:15) it probably wasn't bad no matter what.

I'll remember 315 for next time - we'll probably take it on the way back Sunday, just to avoid the construction at 17th.
