Default Key Fob and Keys Questions

So I purchased a MY00 Silverstone S2000 a few weeks ago and was only given 1 key and 1 fob.

I have been looking around as far as getting another Key and Fob.

I called Voss Honda and they want 53 for the key and 180 for the fob, plus 40 to program. Thats just ridiculous.

I looked on Ebay and Amazon and it looks like there are 2 varieties of fobs, 1 with factory installed alarm, and 1 with dealer installed alarm.

It should be as easy as reading the FCC code off the back of the remote that I have, but it is long gone. I believe that I only have the factory alarm, as I have been led to believe that a dealer installed alarm will have an led on the center console.

Has anyone done this before? Should I just get one of the fobs and see if it works? If not just return it for the other one?

As far as the key goes, amazon sells an unprogrammed uncut key that I can get cut at a local locksmith. Or Lowes has an import transponder key that will accomplish the same thing.

What have you guys done to remedy this? I can imagine this is becoming a more common thing as keys start to dissapear over the years.

Do you have the part Honda number for the key fob?

Is it this: 08E51-S0X-1M0G1

From a quick Google search it looks like that part number is the key fob with the "option" button. As far as I can tell, the fob I have has a trunk button, which opens the trunk when I press it.

As far as I can tell I don't think I have an alarm. Not sure how to check though.

You can get the remote on Ebay for under fifty bucks and program it yourself. Common OMRON part works on several Honda and Acura cars. It's like programming your garage door remote, doesn't need anything but the remote and the car. It's a 4 button on my 2006 and I think they're the same for all model years (but verify). The key, however, requires programming to the ECU that only the dealer can do for security/theft concerns and that may take 2 good keys or the dealer to accomplish.

Remote:
PIN SET 35011-KA. Tx72147-KA
FCC ID code on the remote is: E4EG8DJ

I'm pretty sure that won't work for me though. If you have the "option" button instead of the trunk button you can use that fob, but if the previous fob has a trunk button it can only be replaced with one with a trunk button.

The option one is available on eBay (first few the show up when you search for s2000 key fob) but they specify the original must have the option button.

I think I may just have to bit the dust and get a used oem one. Doesn't look like there is a good alternative.

Buddy of mine just received the same remote off Ebay and programmed is MY2002 S2000 in a few minutes last night. Same data that posted earlier is on the back of the remote. New part. Shop around, they seem plentiful. Manufacturer is Dorman.
