I'd wager some members of this forum would argue that it's possible to build quality cars in the US...

The new Taurus is freaking HUGE!! Ford needs to bring the Focus RS to the US.
EcoBoost, blah, blah, blah. I have a first generation Ford "ecoboost" that made over 200hp from 2.3 liters 25 years ago.

One of the cool things about the Ohio group is that its members aren't just S2000 or Honda enthusiasts, but real car enthusiast who can appreciate cool cars regardless of the make. Come out to a Sunday morning breakfast sometime and talk cars with them. You'll be surprised by the diversity of cars that they drive.
I think that the main thing holding back American car manufacturers are the legacy costs they face from union retirees. I have no doubt that they can engineer and build world class car, but they can't do it while turning a profit.

You're going to pay the retiree health care costs either way:
1. "American" companies pay for retiree health care and add the legacy cost to the price of the car.
2. "Foreign" manufacturers with plants in the US stick the taxpayer with their retiree health care costs.
"You can pay me now or you can pay me later."
