BTW,

as much as I want to order SPEED Channel looking at their posted schedule.....I don't think so. I can live without NASCAR.

ummm....do u know the results u would get if that happened? They wouldnt be able to go over 80mph without spinning off the track.
Thank you mr. engineer. F1 used to race without wings. As did Champcar/IndyCar. Look at the old NASCAR bricks. They had no problem exceeding 80 mph. I wuldn't advise pushing 200 mph, but the competition was closer.

They also can't do squat on a road course. As much as I hate to admit it, F1 in my opinion is fine. It pushes the envelope of what can be done with technology. Then the developments are put into production cars when available.

NASCAR, altghough a good show has done what for production cars in the past 20 years.

Carburator maximization, check.
Adjusting a straight axle, check.
Pushrod motor development, check.
Tuning a bias-ply tire, check.
Making a four speed dog ring tranny almost indestructable, check.

Hell, if Honda did NASCAR they could learn what they learned 40 years ago in F1. If F1 reverted back to the technology from days gone by the pace car would be able to turn just as quick laps.

Let me see if I can sum up this race weekend at least as far as it concerns Honda...

Practice
The team's test driver, Anthony Davidson, puts in some solid laps during Friday testing, as he seems to do frequently, showing that the car itself is capable and no cause for concern.

Qualifying
The number one driver, Button, starts the weekend out really well. He times his qualifying laps perfectly to avoid traffic on his hot laps with fresh tires and secures pole position for himself. Yes, Alonso claims he lost half a second due to traffic and he was held up, no doubt. But it still would have been close enough to be a toss up between the two.

The number two driver, Barrichello, again struggles with setup of his Honda, particularly with respect to braking, kind of gets screwed on his qualifying lap and ends up out of the running after the first qualifying period thus having to start from 16th on the grid.

Race
There's a good bit of chaos in this race resulting in multiple safety car periods which make it tough to keep heat in the tires. Alonso is unfazed. He deals with the cold tires and goes on to win the race. Raikkonen is unfazed. Again, he deals with it and goes on to a solid second place setting fast lap along the way. Barrichello comes from 16th on the grid to finish 7th. Okay, there were a number of retirements that helped with that. But he still had to avoid getting tangled up in any of the incidents and struggle with a car that, by all accounts, he is just not comfortable with yet. And let us not forget those cold tires...

Now Button, on the other hand, is perfectly happy with his Honda's setup, starts in pole position and somehow, by the grace of God, is able to keep Alonso in the Renault behind him at the first few corners despite the Renault's super secret cheaterstart ability to rocket forward something like 12 positions on average by the first corner. Incredible! Maybe Button won't let us down this time!

Oops, what was I thinking? Button goes on to fall to 5th by the end of the race and then fails to even finish due to his engine giving way basically on the last corner. And his tires were too damn cold because of the safety car periods. Oh and then there was that fuel pickup problem before one of his pitstops. And he got word during one of the safety car periods that his favorite gerbil had passed on... What will he stick up his rear end now? Sato??? All of that, combined with the fact that Jenson just plain sucks, and we get what we witnessed this past weekend: Barrichello, completely uncomfortable in the Honda (the same car as Jenson seems to be quite happy with), coming from the rear of the field to finish within two spots of the guy who started first! Or where he would have finished had the engine not let go.

So am I missing something here? Where is Barrichello's whining about no heat in the tires? Were these two running vastly different compounds? For that matter, were Alonso and Raikkonen running vastly different compounds??? What gives? And a possibly more disturbing question, what happened to Button's engine at the end of that race? Maybe he hit the self destruct button (ha!) so he could point the finger at the engine and say, "It doesn't matter that I suck. The car wouldn't have made it anyway!"
