Major Road Closes On Northeast Side
Access Road Near Easton Shut Down Indefinitely
UPDATED: 6:51 am EST December 8, 2005
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An access road that connects Interstate 270 south, near Easton on the city's northeast side, is closed indefinitely after engineers found evidence of voids under the road.
The voids were found just south of Morse Road, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Engineers were scheduled to better assess the situation on Thursday morning, according to ODOT.
The road services state Route 161 southbound traffic and I-270 southbound traffic trying to exit at Easton Way. More than 25,000 motorists travel this stretch of highway each day, according to ODOT.
State Route 161 traffic entering I-270 southbound will be forced to merge onto I-270 mainline north of Morse Road. Southbound motorists will not be able to access Easton Way but can use the Morse Road exit as an alternative.
The right lane of I-270 south is closed at S.R. 161 to allow the traffic the ability to merge onto I-270.
Motorists should consider alternate routes and expect delays when traveling in this area, according to NBC 4 traffic reporter Kellie Hanna.

This just makes my drive to work all the more interesting The road has been sinking over the past few months in front of the last overpass. I could get the Chrysler airborn at 85 to 90 mph. I guess when they tried to level it, someone had the brains to go, umm, there must be something else happening. I would bet they only started to look for the voids because of this.
