aren't you contradicting yourself here?

you want a hi-revving motor (OHC) over a low-revving motor (OHV).

which one do you think will have more "drama"?
nope. I was not referring to speed of the engine. The Iron Drunk just sounded bad. That motor at 5000 rpm was like an unbalanced washing machine.

As for your other question, I want both. My S2000 is my sports car. I would like something fun for a daily driver. The S4 is perfect for that. Good power, adequate handling, rear drive (AWD in this case), looks great, highly refined, room for 4, etc. I am less concerned with the affordable part. I am willing to pay for what I want. I think the notion that GM can build a car better than the 3 series for a lot less money is not true. They should be able to build one that costs as much, but never more. The problem is, they don't. They try to make one product fit every class/kind of driver and the result is something nobody wants.

If GM would build a sedan with the I-6, manual tranny, rear drive, looked good, delivered a good driver experience, I would be willing to over look fit and finish. Their price, however, should be commensurate with the quality. If they can match Audi and BMW on that one, they should ask for a comparable price.

Mitch I have no doubt that every blue devil will sell. The problem I have is that GM isn't selling much of anything else. Corvette alone will not save the company.

ok.

as much as i like to have the latest and greatest of cars, i just can;t see myself buying this thing.

good god, 600HP?

i can barely handle 240.....

in my mind, it's complete overkill....hell, i hesitate at the thought of purchasing a "regular" Z06.

I want both in my garage, but here when I say sporty car, I am referring to a sports sedan or coupe that is more luxury and less track for daily driving duties (i.e. B5 Audi S4, Mazda 6 Speed, Acura TL, Audi TT, Lexus IS 350 to name some).

To me something in the $30k-$45k is affordable, but I would suspect GM could produce their version for less money, but with less panache. A trade off that I may be willing to make, if the quality was there.

are you asking what can be purchased new or available as a 2006? or are we talking in general because 25k-35k can buy a whole lot of fun if were talking used.

With the latest supercar horsepower tango pouring out of Europe, GM can't stand to see the already potent 500hp Corvette Z06 gazed down upon as a second rate supercar. Instead GM is developing an alleged supercharged 600hp Z06 with carbon fiber components dubbed the "Blue Devil" as reported by Autoweek in a recent interview with General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz. With a curb weight hovering around 2900 lbs. and a price tag starting at $100,000 the European competition should be breaking into a cold sweat as the Blue Devil seen here making laps around Germany's Nurbrgring passes by.

Why bother? The base Z06 has 505 advertised HP and weighs a bit over 3200 lbs. In all liklihood, the average engine will be putting down closer to 550 HP. There's no reason for an 'upmarket' Blue Devil that has the added complexity of a supercharger that only yields 50-100 HP. The only logical market would be a track special (as if the Z06 wasn't that already) with track duty brakes/pads, full roll cage, race seats with 5 pt harnesses, no A/C or radio, etc. The extra HP could be gained without a blower.
