In a way, the reason GM would produce a blue devil is the same reason the US decided to go to the moon... Because they can and doing such, proved how capable the are.
But let's face it, overall GM is conservative. GM is also the largest car maker in the world. Producing a blue devil Z06 provides them with an iconic car that people can get behind to show how capable GM is.
Continuing, GM knows they can sell vehicles with what is considered less advanced technologies. This makes good business sense to them. So, given this GM profile, why make risky investments on unproven technologies when the bread and butter older technolgies are still selling (albeit with huge discounts/incentives)?
Are the old technologies sexy? No
Are the old technologies going to impress you? No
Are the old technologies proven and cost effective? Yes and Yes.
This is rings all the right bells with GM.
IMO, the business cases to stick with old technolgies may look appealing to the pencil pushers and bean counters, but in the longrun, if GM does not pull a Daimler Chrysler move (i.e. Chrysler 300M, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Avenger) it may end up being their downfall.

they have been talking about blue devil for the longest time since the C6 first came out, and the Z06 #'s were being tossed around. The car, I think, was named "Blue Devil" because the design guy is a Duke grad . Anyway, my question is, stock Z06 is $65k. $35k more for 100hp.
Give Lingenfelter a stock Z06, write a check for $35k, and i have a feeling they can bring more out of the car than 100hp, and probably some pretty impressive handling as well.
Some of you were at the Solon car show when my "dad" brought his C5 Lingenfelter. There is nowhere near $35k in mods, and he's putting down 500 to the wheel + full Z06 suspension and HRE's.
I think Chevy is going to need to put out more than 600hp to justify the $100k pricetag.

If GM build a good looking sports sedan with an OHC motor, rear drive and a manual tranny, I would consider it.
btw, the CTS-V is a great sports sedan.

i'm curious on what impressed you about the Vspec? I keep hearing mixed reviews on the CTS-V. A friend of the family (the guy that keeps drooling over Scott's nfr/tan s2k), recently was looking to trade his C32 for another sedan. He test drove the V for a weekend and came back saying it was great power, but mushy handling. He ended up buying a new S4.
Another tennis buddy bought one (owned 3 series before), and loves it.
