Mocky,
Take it from me (i spun my car the first day i had it like an idiot) the best thing you can do is an event like this. Group one (people with little or no track experience) is extremely laid back. When i was out there was a handful of sports cars and then a couple of very normal cars. They will not be going fast and you will pass people when you feel confident and continue from there.
When you get to feel the car on the track you get an idea of when a car is approaching or at its limit. And the conditions are near perfect - no broken pavement, no rocks or debris on the road. And, at least for me, you desire to speed on public roads goes down a bit.
JonasM -
The only event i attended top down was my first event in 2007 at summit point. Then the next year was when the fatality happened at summit with the s2000 driver and i know there was alot of changes at tracks everywhere regarding s2000s. These flat outs are run by beaverun - but i know what you mean - if there are 3rd party organizers they often do have different rules.

Oh.. no no.. I've been to Beaverun and I know the benefits of the track. I actually have been to the track several times. I just meant, my car (my third S2k) has only 300 miles so I'd like to break the car in somewhere else besides at Beaverun.

Yep...they are... just from your shop and back..
the next set of miles will probably be from your shop and back again as well.
Let me get a few thousand miles on the motor first before I get out there and see what the car can do..
I talked to my friend in Mars (the city outside of Pittsbugh btw ) and he sounds like he is interested in going... I might come up just to watch, but I doubt I'll run the car...at least not yet.
