Make sure that the PCV system is not clogged. It's common on the 6 cylinders to have the oil seperator rupture on a cold morning. When it pops, it's big bucks.
and you check it how?

I will check with my tech this saturday. The cold snap we had last year had about 20 cars in one day for oil leaks and bad idle from it. It's only a problem in the cold climates. There are upgraded parts for it. PM me the vin and miles and I will check if the PCV system has had any issues.

Got the info for you. What you need to check is the dipstick tube since that is what clogs and trashes the oil seperator and lines. Pull the dipstick out and look at the top of the tube. If it is double walled, you should plan on replacing it. The narrow side of the tube is the drain and vent for the oil seperator and that is what clogs. The fix and the peventative fix is to replace the tube. The tube is is about $300 plus labor. If it pops, then the repair runs $1200 to $1500. On my car the cyclonic oil seperator is built into the valve cover and is not servicable. When it starts to clog, and people are starting to have issues around 75k miles stock, less if tuned, you have to replace the valvecover. So what the turbo motors have is a $400 to $500 PCV valve!

Anyone else think $1200.00 for a dipstick is stupid ?

For a company that prides itself (BMW) as an engineering company;the knucklehead that "engineered" the dipstick should be fired and replaced with a HS grad.

"So Hans should vee make dis dipshctick 1200 euros to veplace ?"

"Yah Franz........do it Dos schupid Americanas vill pay it "

Mocky and I have seen the solution for that dipstick problem. You tie itdown with baling wire. That works every time!
