Unfortunately, it's the law to have a front plate in Ontario. I got 3 $110 dollar tickets before I decided to bolt mine on.

You should check to see if Ontario has something similar to what we have in New Brunswick. It is also mandatory to run a front plate here, UNLESS you have seasonal plates, which then you need only apply the registration sticker to your front windshield. It does cost a little extra and you can only drive from April 1 to October 31, but I think it is well worth it, not to have to run a front plate.
