No, it's not if you do the right kind of fender work.
Why not just 9.5 +38? The front edge of the wheel is 3mm more aggressive than 9 +35, but with the extra stretch you would get from the 9.5 it's actually easier to fit. The center of the tire would be 3mm further in.

haha actually no. I don't want to do the offset game anymore. I want to make the car as functional as possible. I'm gonna get 17x9 +45 matte black RPF1's unstaggered and run 255 all around (gonna go back to star specs or maybe rs3's from hankook idk yet on that). I don't want all this camber and all anymore. I really got sick of the silver as well, i feel like there's no contrast and I love matte black wheels.

If you are running tires like the Star Spec or RS3 in 255 they look perfectly flush on the 17x9 +45. I'll hopefully have pics up of my setup Sunday. 17x9 +45 with 255 RS3s all around. I did the 9.5 +38s on my first s2k and it was too much extra work and a pain to make them fit. Now that I have this setup done I actually prefer the look of the less aggressive 9 +45.
