255 on a 10" wide wheel does yield more mechanical grip, and is not stretched. My Star Specs (255/40 R17) is considerably wider than my RPF1's in 17x9. Look how the tire is ballooning out from the wheel in the picture below. 255 on a 17x10 is perfect imo.
