Default Young Kids Getting Flamed For Mistakes

I've noticed a lot on forums that if a younger kid wrecks their car, or does something stupid they get flamed to no extent. Then people talk down to them, like they are better than the kid.

I don't see why kids get flamed if they wreck their car. But if someone older wrecks their car, it's no big deal. Everyone has done "spirited" when they really shouldn't be, or driven wrecklessly out on the streets. I'm going to be 30 in a couple of days, and yeah I have 15 yrs of driving under my belt, but that really doesn't say much. I'm not going to lie, there have been times that i've driven above the posted speed limits. I've gone to different S2K tours, at any of the events I could lose control of the S and wreck it. Accidents happen, I could go out today and wreck the S just as easily as any kid can.

Do the younger kids get flamed because lack of driving behind them?? Can't say it's lack of maturity, or lack of common sense. Because no matter what your age is anything can happen. If you're taking a turn faster then the posted speed you can hit a slick spot and anything can happen. Even on closed courses anything can happen.

There are a lot of kids out there that have gone to driving schools. Kids that have started early and gotten into some sort of racing where they do have drive time behind them. Yet if they wreck a POV then they get flamed because of their age. Majority of the time it is done without anyone knowing their background, or what the details of the accident were. They only see age, speed, and automatically think "dumbass".

Now before anyone jumps to conclusion, I do know that there are those exceptions to the rule. The kids who go out looking for trouble, I'm not talking about those kids.

I guess I just can't see why the younger generation catches so much crap, when everyone does it.

Par for the course on an internet forum is all I'll say. Anything you post will have supporters and detractors. No different than real life, except the anonymity of the internet may bring out the nasty in some folks.

Everyone can make stupid mistakes and any accident is a mistake whether you are old or young. The fact is one needs to recognize her/his driving capabilities and drive within those gradually improving bit by bit. The S is a temptress that will get you all excited and have you flooring the gas, and then bite you back for giving in to temptation.

That, and I've been around long enough to see users make posts like this: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=788504

Followed a couple months later by those users posting with stuff like this:

Too many people would rather buy the car, spend $5k on mods for appearance, and then drive it into a tree rather than go autocross it or buy decent tires. That's one argument at least.

I agree, but that is not something you can solely attribute to the younger owners doing.

I've noticed the trend on here and other forums I actively participate on that there generally seems to be this underlying theme of "ageism" of sorts. Just like there are ignorant young owners of our cars, there are also ignorant "mature" owners as well and one should be careful not to brand all young owners under the same paradigm, especially when the weekly "i accidentally my car into a ditch" threads come up.

It's entirely too often i see some young kid get chastized for doing something stupid, and when an older, more "mature" owner does the same thing, its often given a free pass.

I wouldn't wish an accident on anyone for the sole purpose of driving up the value of a material possession all of .0000001 dollars.

Probably true - some people are going to flame no matter what, it just goes with ethuggery and the Internet. I can't speak for all forums, but around here I see a lot more young people wrecking than old people though.

I see it too and IMO it gives credence to the stereotype. seems like most of the threads i see on here involving accidents follow the same formula of bad tires, poor weather conditions, and a young driver. however, it's a little unfair to brand an s2000 owner under 20 that gets into an accident as "immature" or "wreckless" solely on his age.

Lack of maturity -- not of the wrecker, but of the flamer. Must be hundreds of members here, fingers poised over keyboards, ready to pounce with a "you're an idiot" post wherever possible.

Big culture shock coming from Miata.net to S2Ki.

Maybe its how the person posts they're wreck too - not much flaming here - https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...ic=787878&st=0

Owner wrecked, was straight up about it, sometimes bad luck just happens. Debris on the road, that chance puddle, etc.
