Hyenas aren't exactly vicious unless something is harmless. They're actually cowards on their own - a pack is more prone to attack something strong but alone, they're pretty much harmless. Slow (short back legs) and ungainly, they aren't that bad. A decent dog would rip one apart (ie, a Doberman, Rottweiler, Rhodesian Ridgeback, even an Akita or Husky).

Ya know, I actually thought of something pretty damn funny. Supposed a thief arrive at a house with a fenced property. Next thing you know, the thief sees Hyenas and says what the fVck? Then the Hyenas will see the thief and bust out laughing. Now, the question is, will the thief still attemp to break in with Hyenas laughing at him or start doubting himself since he has a pack of Hyenas laughing at him like anything is going to happen. Know what I mean? Oh whatever.

.. It's not even what the Hyena can or cannot do, it's the intimidation factor, something that big will make you think twice.. I don't care if you're a scientist and studied hyena's attributes and characteristic, still pretty damn scary to have that looking back at you.

I agree with you, but the question is. If you were the theif would you really step into a yard with a hyeena sitting there staring at you? I mean would you really take the risk of it being harmless, maybe it haven't ate in a day and you're his dinner.
