WTF? Speeding ticket. Radar silent.
Last night I was traveling down I-40 next to a VW cabrio going 80mph when I noticed a car on the side of the road. As i passed I realized it was an undercover and sure enough I see him put on the lights and get on my ass. The VW was going the same speed mind you. He said I was going 80 which is what it said exactly on the speedo but my radar didn't even blip. I got a passport escort. No laser signal, No K signal, No Ka signal appeared. How'd he know how fast I was going? Regardless I hate being profiled. Honestly, I could have a nun in my car and still get pulled over some other car.

they can pace you or measure how quickly traveled from point A to point B. simply put, theres other ways that will stand in a court of law for them to prove how fast you were going.
radar detectors are hit and miss for this exact reason. slow down next time.

There's a way, see below...
types of radar:
X band - the first microwave band used by police. there are allot of false alerts. only 20% of all the radar guns out there on the street operate on this frequency.
K band - currently over 60% of all the police radar guns use this frequency. false alerts are much lower then X band.
Ka band - developed for police use in 1989 and is used by the other 20% of the police radar guns today. This band is the cleanest band and false alerts are rare. The range of Ka is also much shorter then X or K band.
POP Radar (Super Bee)
POP mode allows an officer to send a quick "burst" to allow an officer to get a quick and accurate speed checks without alerting approaching vehicles. MPH claims that 95% of all the radar detectors in use today cannot pick-up their radar guns while being operated in their POP mode.
POP is gaining in popularity as evidenced with the Nevada Highway Patrol now outfitting their patrol cars with POP radar.
Instant on radar
Many of the radar guns in use today are instant-on. This means that the police officer puts the radar gun into "standby" mode and waits for a speeder that is in range and then pulls the trigger.

I would expect a higher end passport (as well as the V1) to be in that 5% that can pick up POP radar. There are a lot of cheap radar detectors out there...these aren't among them.
It's quite possible that you were timed.

Always ask when you're pulled over. Helps plan possible defense. I was pulled over driving a company car a couple of years ago in a similar circumstance. The CHiP had just finished writing someone else when I went by, pulled out, and pulled me over in LESS than a 1/4 mile of tailing me. He had the gall to say he paced me. Yeah right, not likely since I saw him and checked my speedo as I went by. I was 12 MPH over (indicated in mine and what he wrote) and slowing as I went by. Yep, nailed for a lousy 12.
