got the odd toy here and there...my parent's were poor.
and now - with the grace of god - my wife and i don't have to worry about money, so we get the kids whatever they want.
but they're young, so a $10 bead set for my daughter is heaven to her, or a $20 thomas train for my son....
i dunno....i have 2 thoughts on the subject - i wouldn't want to deny my kids for the sake of making a point, and on the other hand, i've seen enough spoiled, out-of-control kids that should've been denied...i guess it's finding that balance.

I am trying to reel my kids back in.... we way over spoiled them at first....
My oldest son had a VW Bettle Peg Pergo ride in car when he was 2....then when my other son turned 2 we got him a powerwheels 4 wheeler (plus one for the older son).... then eventually a 8hp go cart, then a Suzuki PW50, then the raptor 4 wheeler...... I am certain that I have already spent more $ on my kids than my father spent on me my entire life....

Scot, speaking of houses, did you ever sell that one you recently fixed up ($234K, I think, was your asking price)?

I was just reading an article the other day about people like us spoiling their kids....turns them into self centered eggomaniacs.....

that's fine if they respect the toy or item given to them and respect the value of it being given (i don't mean in absolute dollars).
my son's too young to understand but we tell my daughter that we will get her whatever she wants as long as she earns it and appreciates it.
so, every time she plays with her $10 bead set, she carefully wraps up the string, and puts all the beads away in their respective compartments (yellows in this one, blues in this one, etc.)....she spends more time putting it away "neatly" than playing with it.
mind you, she also takes care of her wall-mounted 37" LCD panel and HD-DVD player too.
god, i love my kids....

I was pretty f'ing happy with my 10" black and white tv when i was 12.... it got taken away when i got bad grades........ bye bye tv..... both kids have decent tv's, laptops in their rooms now.... they are playing www.runescape.com right now... hopefully it isn't too nerdy.
Kids are fun....but can certainly be annoying at times...
