US residents, please answer something for me
Do you or do you not have Robertson Drive screwdrivers in the US?
It is clearly a superior drive, and I manufacture a lot of product that goes to the US, but I don't use Robertson Drive as its always been my understanding that its not used, maybe being a Canadian invention or something
Robertson = Square

they are used, but not much.
normally, they are used in products the manufacturer does NOT want customers opening up...they are considered "tamper resistant"
In the US, we use flat and philips head screws and the others are all specialty drivers.

Square drive is very commonly used here for fastening decking to, um, decks. I think I have a few thousand 3" stainless square drive deck screws down in my truck at this moment, along with a dozen square drive bits for my cordless driver.

I used them all the time instead of Philips drives for hanging cabinets and installing trim that needed to be removed from time to time. I had less problems with the insert stripping out. Also used a combination head that you could use either a square drive or a Philips drive, that way the customer didn't have to have a square drive to remove something at a later date. The screws can be purchased at just about any good hardware, lumber supply. Even the big box stores carry them.

Thanks guys, so I take it that while it's not like it doesn't exist there, but it by no means common, unless it is for a specific use..
I'll stick with phillips for you guys then

I did not know what you meant until you said "Robertson = Square"
But we do use them, and they seem to be getting more common. Biggest problem I see in them really catching on is people will have to get more screw drivers.
Thats not the biggest problem but people hate change. The biggest problem is the fact that there are Philips or flathead screws in just about eveything we own, so we would have to switch screw drivers or bits alot.
The real reason I post is that my cousin just built a deck and I was looking at it and noticed that there are both Robertson and Philips head screws in it. Sometimes both types in one board... @ INCHES APART!!! that must have been a pain in the ass. I dont know why and have yet to ask him but I can see him grabbing a handful of screws and having to switch bits every 5 seconds.
