UNBELIVABLE: my story at the BORDERS going to HIN.

Screw homeland security, I'd rather not hear about crap like this than "minimize the terrorist threat" and give up my and other human being's civil liberties and dignity. If the Israelis can't stop it, there's no way the CIA can do it, so why bother trying so hard?
I guess that we should just open the border for all smugglers and terrorists to come in? The fact is that they have already captured quite a terrorists and have stopped several terrorist acts. This has saved lives!
THIS WAS A DRUG SEARCH...not a "YOU'RE A TERRORIST" SEARCH
The government can pretty much do whatever it wants, and in the wake of recent events these days, public opinion supports it.
Wake up people. Stand up for your civil liberties before they no longer exist. Be active.

I've got to disagree with you on this point. Whatever the Feds/CIA/No Such Agency are doing, it is working. Since 9/11 there have been no terrorist attacks in the US.

You know, now that I think of it:
The car had custom carbon fiber panels all over the body, or at least the front half of the car. If I were a customs agent and saw the custom bodywork I would wonder if that custom bodywork also included custom secret compartments.
Even if I did so, a drug/explosives trained dog should clear that up rather quickly, and if we are talking about hood/trunk/fenders/quarter panel, the matter should be cleared up easily with the parts still on the car.
Then again, I am not a customs agent.
The whole matter just plain sucks, customs should at least take care in disassembling a vehicle and have the car reassembled in the condition it was found and compensate someone cleared in a search to have whatever damages repaired.

What did they stand to gain from all of this?
The erosion of the civil liberties within America, a la Patriot Act, in order to create a National I.D. card system so that anyone and EVERYONE can be tracked at all times. Wouldn't that be great...no crime at all EVER. Uhhhhhh....NO. No freedom is more like it. Why do you think you have to get your thumb scanned now when going to renew your driver's license. Oh yeah...that must be some more "homeland security" to make me feel more secure. We are now officially guilty until proven innocent.
Why were 15 out of the 17 hijackers Saudi's yet Saudi Arabia is not on the "Axis of Evil" list put out by our Federal Government? Why was Al-Hussani Hussein, whom many, MANY people believe to be the John Doe #2 that assisted McVeigh in Oklahoma City yet the Fed's dropped the search on him within hours, working in the Boston airport the morning of 9/11. Coincidence...I think not.
Did you know that it was actually in the USA Today newspaper, back when the first attack on the WTC took place in the early nineties, that the FBI had assisted in the attack and actually cooked the bomb that was used by the Egyptians?
You probably didn't know that because it's not something that is going to get brought up OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again on the so-called "news" like the topic of "homeland security" that we supposedly need to be concerned with.

Searches are necessary.

Why would US Customs do a "PRETEND drug search" as an excuse for a "REAL terrorist search"?
If they want to search you they will with no excuses.
You gotta love this country.

Crap Ace, you're little trend comment ignored the fact that some of the criticisms and complaints about this boy's experience came from the East Coast too. Trying to categorize people like that just doesn't work.
As for "the issue", the gov't does have every right to defend our borders, but it doesn't mean that they can destroy an innocent man's possessions without compensation. That is the issue here. Not the search, not the questions, but the end result. Its wrong. Look at it this way - if someone tipped off the cops that your house was a meth lab and they came busting in, breaking your windows and doors only to find that there was nothing there, what would be the fair course of action?
As for my location, I have lived in California for 5 years. I lived in AZ for 17 years before that. What does that tell you about me? Absolutely nothing. It doesn't tell you how I voted, my political views, nothing. You want to talk liberal vs. conservative and coastal preference, start a thread and watch your preconceived notions get shredded.
