SPEED Channel Web Site Launched

BTW, My fear that the new SPEED Channel's NASCAR TV "channel within a channel" programming format would squeeze out Formula One appears to be unfounded -- for now.
SPEED is going through great pains to advertise F1 coverage.
I hope this holds true...

I still think the Speed Channel needs to devote more time to the Import scene.
Every now and then they have the same program on with the same lame host. Maybe things will change with the new name.

The "new" Speed Channel sucks. It's essentially all about NASCAR.
I've been frustrated about this for awhile. It really made me mad when they didn't do live 24 hour coverage of the 24 hours of Daytona this year.
Also, the programming schedule still shows a lot of "Automotive Product Showcase" time slots. These shows are infomercials about things like Bowflex.
So, at 8pm every night we are treated to 3 hours of NASCAR Preview.
I don't know about F1 coverage this year, there's been no announcement that F1 will be on Speed Channel.
Sorry, just wanted to rant.

FWIW, my local sports talk radio station has a commercial for the new speed channel yesterday, and they said they'd be showing every F1 race. They also said they would show all nascar press conferences, qualifying, time trials, every time jeff gordon goes to the bathroom, etc.

If SPEED can use NASCAR coverage to make enough money to help it continue covering the other racing we've grown accustomed to then I'm all for it. I find it hard to believe they were making much money covering SCCA nationals, for instance, but those were some damn entertaining races and I'd hate to see them go. As for F1, depending on how things go with Kirch and Bernie, I'd certainly think that SPEED can cover it with at least a small profit since it would have exclusive US rights.
In the long run, much as MTV moved more and more to non-music-video formatting but created M2, I see the main SPEED Channel evolving to more and more NASCAR, but eventually offering a "SPEED 2" that covers all the good stuff.
Bottom line: keep watching, keep emailing, and the programming will come.

I tried to watch the NEW Speed Channel yesterday but after about 5 hours of NASCAR PREVIEW I couldn't hang anymore. I am going to have to get a TIVO since anything non-NASCAR appears to be on a 3 AM or something.
