shifter carts..??
anyone have some first hand experience with shifter carts...
besides a McLearen, i think the shifter carts are really the only car that will outrun my soon to be Megabusa..... i remember seeing shifter carts do 0-100 in 6 seconds and 0-100-0 in about 10 seconds!!!
where do you race these? how much do they cost? etc...
thanks...Scot

they are a blast! Ever go 100mph 1" off the ground? There are a ton of places opening up in SoCal where you can race. If you own your own cart (1k-4k used), the race fees for a day are only $15-25 bucks usually

Scot, go over to Racing and Comp. and contact Randy Chase. He's about to buy one if he hasn't already, he should be able to fill you in on current prices. They do look like they would be a blast but I've got a problem with having my right arm on the exhaust...

I know alot of guys(one has been to the world championships in Italy) who run 125 shifter karts and love it.
I have driven an alcohol burning kart but it wasn't a shifter.
The clutch didn't kick in until 10k rpms.
It was a blast. There are tracks all over the country and I know of three shops
here in DFW that sell & service them.
It is a cheap way to go racin. Just don't break your neck.

I used to race carts a couple of years ago - they are one of the cheapest forms a real racing that you can do. I ran 125cc shifters, but there were some guys who ran 250cc shifters - they had a top speed of 140mph. We could see about 120mph on ours. I raced on road courses about 2 miles long, but the most popular tracks are sprint tracks which are about the size of auto cross tracks.
