S2000 Anonymous: Changing Mind on S2000 Purchase
#1
Help me guys. I need help. I'm starting to doubt the S2000. More accurately, I'm starting to doubt my desires for the S2000.
First, when I put in my deposit, I thought it was going to be for a car that's not going to be made for more than two, three years. Now I hear they're doubling production, that it's going to have a 4 year run, etc.
Second, I'm thinking of going with the 2001 Prelude SH instead and saving the $10,000. I've never driven the S2000 or the Prelude... is it THAT different? I mean isn't the Prelude pretty good in the performance department as well? Is the S2000 worth forking over the extra 10K? I'm going from the S4 to the S2000 to the Prelude. Doesn't make sense, huh?
Third, I might be delusional here so don't hurt me.

benjaminchoi,
There is a huge difference:
Convertable vs. Hardtop
Rear-wheel drive vs. Front
240 hp vs. 200 hp
Two seats vs. Four seats
Incredable Handling vs. not as incredable
Rick's accessories vs. No accessories
The list goes on....
Bottom line, once you get behind the wheel you will not doubt the car ever again!

There's nothing that compares with dropping the top and feeling the power of the vtec as the wind blows thru your hair. I'm talking automotive rush...
I'd keep the S4 over a prelude any day...
I hardly ever see any S2k's around here, only during meets...

The difference, IMO, between the S2000 and the Prelude is like night and day! I test drove 3 Preludes (1 used 5 spd, 1 new auto, 1 demo 5 spd) before I finally decided to wait for the S2K. The S2K feels much faster, has a much firmer ride, handles much better with the RWD, convertible top, starter button, 9000 rpm, etc etc etc. Definitely worth the wait!! The VTEC in the Prelude doesn't give you as much as a kick as the S2K either. But on the other hand, the S2K is $10,000 more. Also consider that the current Prelude is going out-of-production after MY2001.

Ok my $.02 worth.
I currently own a '99 Prelude SH and an s2000.
As far as I can see the only similarity between these two cars is that they are both Honda's.
I don't understand the comparison.
The s2000 is a 2 seat roadster.
The prelude is a small 4 seat coupe.
Having said that. I think they are both fine cars. I have no complaints with the SH, if you are looking for a quick, small, excellant handling coupe I don't see any in the US market I would pick over the Prelude.

benjaminchoi,
Do other S2000 owners a favor and just buy the Prelude (or S4)!! Your comments about production numbers and your lack of knowledge about cars (comparing a FWD Prelude to a RWD S2000 and thinking they are close to the same in handling) make it clear you are more worried about "looking cool in an exclusive car" than you are performance! I don't think you would really appreciate the S2000 so you are better off not owning one.
One question for you, are you spending your own money (or daddy's)? I suspect the later because anyone looking to spend $25k-30k of their own hard-earned money would probably do a little research about the possible cars before putting a deposit down.
