Uncle Sam is a euphemism for the U. S. Government.

State governments levy property taxes, not the federal government.

And I'm waiting till the last minute to pay mine. The longer the money sits in my savings account, the more interest I accrue.

While you're right about the "Uncle Sam" phrase, state governments aren't the only ones that charge property tax. In fact, the state government in Texas doesn't charge me a penny of property tax. Instead, we have a sales tax. My property tax goes to support my county & city government, as well as the local ISD and a Jr. College.

Remember... if you pay both installments in 2008 you can claim it against 2008 tax year.

California tax is divided in 2.. and yes you can write off if you pay a lump sum.. but why? in the end you get same amount of tax write off every year..

My income is gonna be higher next year since now i'm renting out my property.. it's better for me to have a bigger write off next year

What really stuipd is that I pay close to 20K in tuition alone yet. I only get to write off 5000. how retarded is that? I use to complain about educational system in California but out here in chicago.. it's pathetic. its so damn expensive.. and professors f'ing dont' seem to just care..

I use to complain about $24 a unit in community colleges, but I find out community colleges in IL charges 100 per unit? WTF??.. isn't community colleges suppose to be affordable?

True enough; in California it's county government as well.

The point, of course, was that it isn't Uncle Sam; cursing him (for property taxes, at least) is silly.
i find the term "uncle sam" is generalization of where all out tax is going. it is not specific. but if you want to argue the technicalities go ahead.

all the money I save through out the year goes right out to door when it's property tax time.
