and yeah don't forget about xbox live..... you can't beat 50 bucks which allows you access to the microsoft/xbox network to play games like halo and splinter cell online....
And you don't have to worry about 56k laggers messin up your game. Xbox live only supports broadband and the communicator is a nice touch....
From what i understand you need to buy a seperate modem and hardrive for PS2 which is around 150 bucks....

I think you cant go wrong with all 3 consoles right now, and gameboy advance are releasing great classics converted onto... BUT, I cant live without GT3, and eventually GT3, it literally took me 100 hours (at the least) to beat the game, everything from those freaking hard time trials, to the S license, to the long hour+ endurance races that leave you wondering if its worth it (2 am, pick up controller, do seattle circuit endurance with lots of Caffeine, finish at like 3:30 saying YES! another 0.2 percent added up to the game completion chart!) GOOD TIMES! and yes, I know, Im a loser

Buy one or the other now, and then buy the other for you birthday. There problem solved. I've played both but I own the PS2. It's an awesome system, but the graphics on the Xbox are a little better. In my opinion the only benefit you'll get over having one system over the other is some games are not available on both systems. With that said. Close your eyes and pick one. You really can't go wrong.

(if I am lying may my second gear grind, my differential turn to metal shavings, and my cylinder #4 starve for oil). But I was wondering why you think the PS2 has more staying power than the Xbox?
I mean, remember we are talking about l
one of lil billy gate's toys here. Most folks HATED windows when it was rolled out and look where it is now....
Also I had 3 PS2's go belly up in about 6 month's time. All of them eventually gave me disk read failure that would start as fail to read a "blue" disk and eventually become a fail to read ANY type disk, and the first was DIB....Anyway, just wondering where you were coming from.

this is weird about most of you suggesting X-box. PS2 out sells X-box almost 4-1. Not to mention, there are more problems with X-box than there is with PS2. I do agree that X-box would slightly be better for the price with the inception of X-box Live.

for those who don't like the big controller, the new bundle includes the smaller controller-S. even with the controller-S I still prefer the bigger, original controller (and I do not have big hands).
if the question is still PS2 or XBox - well for the same money's worth, you get 2 games, controllerS and the XBox system. can't see how you can go wrong with that

I had three games for XBOX, one of either type of controller, and I love the thing to death... BUT... I honestly just have more fun with the PS2. I am in no way meaning to blast the XBOX, I frickin LOVE that system... but the PS2 has been ol' faithful to me for quite a while... plus it has more games, more japanese 3rd party support and doesn't weigh 30 lbs hehehe

I've had PS2 for awhile now and it has worked fine for me and I like it a lot. I've played Xbox several times and I liked that also. I don't think you can go wrong with eirther one. If I had to pick one though, I think I would go with PS2.
