Default Problem with Projection TV

I have a 53" Sony Projection TV and today unexpectedly it has started acting up. When I was watching TV, the color/picture on the screen became fuzzy and the color was messed up. I could smell something slightly burning in the back and unplugged the TV. Now when I turn on the TV it takes awhile for it to come on and the problem is still there. When I turn it off, the power button LED flashes 5 times..maybe its a self diagnostic code?

What could be wrong with this TV?

Thanks for your help.

I hope you have a warranty because that thing is f*cked.

Anytime you smell a burning odor can't be good.

How old is the TV? Is it a CRT or LCD? Not sure if your model does but my Grand Wega has a separate light for the lamp. When the lamp goes, so I have read, that light will come on and the TV will blink 5 times. But in that case you don't get any image. Sony's have also been diagnosed with a certain flickering problem. There are other issues and yours seem to be on that track. You should contact Sony Call Center (800-222-SONY) to schedule a service call. Sony has extended the warranty on the problem models for this issue and is working with authorized service centers to fix them, providing all current information for the repair as well as assisting them in ordering the parts beforehand, so the repair can be completed in one visit. So I hope that helps and you can get that resolved ASAP and for free.
