I have icebergs a few miles away and I've never seen one like that, ever (in 20 years). They tend not to be blue like that - they're definitely white, or bluish white. To me, that looks more like cave ice with some light coming in - very different than iceberg ice. The edges look all wrong - too smooth everywhere. While icebergs are smooth in areas, most have some jagged edges at spots - this has none.

Secondly, penguins are rarely on icebergs in open ocean like that - they typically stick to pack ice and/or polar ice that isn't too thick.

Lastly, the light on the water looks all wrong - the picture looks all wrong to me.

I'd be really interested to know who took the picture and if it is definitely real. In my opinion, it's not.

I'm with you. It's totally unbelievable. First the majestic size of the ice is apparent in contrast to the penguins, and the almost Fantasy-Blue color I couldn't figure out until I realized that icebergs can flip and roll exposing the side that had been previously submerged. It's beauty needs a poet.

I've never seen a capsized berg that big, but that is what they look like after they capsize. When a berg breaks loose and starts floating away, the wave action melts away at the edges and forms the "fin" structures you see in the photo. As the underside of berg melts off, there is more mass above the waterline than below and the whole thing flips.

Because there are penguins, I think we know where the berg came from, right? Anyway, didn't a huge chunk of the Antarctic shelf break free last year?

I think it's a real photo, maybe retouched a little, but real.

OT, Kayaking around Prince William Sound AK, I've been tempted to collect water dripping off bergs. The only thing stopping me is the stories of bergs flipping during the process and shattering the kayak and kayaker!
