you know those scenes in movies and tv where someone pretends to punch a guy in the face and stops short. the guy, usually the hero, doesn't even flinch. is that possible? the truth is appreciated.

some people can, some not. i know a guy, he's "from the hood" and he doesn't even get scared if you get close. while other guys "from the suburbia hood" flinch like pansies. i'm probably in between. its all self control.

Yes, its possible. Also, if you were to stand apart from the camera, you'd see the guy throwing the punch is about a foot away from the actor's face.

well, if you've ever been punched in the face more than once, it only hurts for a little bit. I tend to wait for the impact before flinching

Whenever a friend does that, trying to make me flinch, I never flinch (knowing he won't actually hit me) and always, always make sure to say "Wouldn't hurt."

If it's a friend, I won't necessarily flinch. If some stranger was doing it? I'd flinch (actually, I'd be ducking and probably counter punching). What idiot stands there while someone swings? That's not macho - that's stupid!

The only way I'd give someone a "free punch" like that was if I knew that I was going to beat them to a bloody pulp afterwards (ie, it was a foregone conclusion that I was going to "win" the fight). I'm not into beating people into a bloody pulp, though, so it'd probably never happen.
