I have three rifles. I still need to get my hand gun permit filled out and apply for my license. I have a Bushmaster M4 AR15, an AK47 (Romanian), and a Hi-Point 9mm (my first gun, I use it at the indoor range). Here is a pic of my M4 :

Kind of a vague question, but my GF has been wanting a handgun for personal protection. What would be some options?

She likes the Colt .380 like I have......but then again she hasn't fired anything else.

Any suggestions?

I'd say go with that. Nothing is better than a gun you're confident about

Probably best to start her with a revolver for simplicity and reliability reasons. There are a lot of featherweight options out there. Perhaps a S&W in .38...

yeah a few other options would be the walther p22, its small comfortable and light weight. the only two draw backs to that gun are it has somewhat of a long trigger pull and it only a .22. walther also makes a smaller compact gun called the ppk. both of these guns are extremely comfortable to hold and shoot and are very light weight and compact. there is also the Taurus Pro millenium comes in 9mm, .40 and a .45. taurus has lifetime traveling warranty too . maybe one more suggestion to look into if you want something real small would be a cz. good luck. oh i id o agree with the other guy. shoot and carry a gun you are confident in!

You should take her to the firing range... a lot! She should be confident with a firearm before she should expect to be able to use one for personal protection. If you have a range that rents handguns, go there for her to try other calibers. I would suggest nothing less than a 9mm. Being a "girl" is no excuse for needing a smaller caliber. With practice and familiarity, I bet she would be able to handle any auto cartridge pretty quickly.
