I'm surprised nobody has a Kimber Custom

I have three fire arms but choose to keep them off the net ... best to keep quite when you live in California

Not an advocate of guns for personal protection at all here.

Seems like a good way to blow off some steam, but not sure why people have the need for more than 2 guns - perhaps a rifle/pistol or shotgun/pistol combo.

What do you guys do with them aside from having them at home for protection, hunting animals or taking them to the range for practise?

Seems like a big waste of money, but that's just my opinion

You mean like spending $30+ thousand on a car that can only seat two, has no roof and next-to-nothing storage?

LABrit, actually they can be considered another form of an asset (like gold coins, only functional). They don't depreciate much in value (if kept in good condition) and some actually appreciate. Not to mention their value would shoot the moon in the event of real lasting civil crisis...

Many of us have a hobby-type interest in firearms themselves. So weapons of different vintages, operational mechanism, calibers, or manufacturers might be collected. Then there are commemorative editions of many firearms. If you hunt then different calibers or ammunition types (bullet vs. shot) are best for different game. If you participate in shooting sports then you need various firearms -- like old West competitions that may require single-action pistols, lever action rifles, and side-by-side shotguns). Or skeet vs trap vs. 5-stand shotguns (PLUS the various calibers used there). Or the gear requirements of Olympic pistol, air pistol, or biathalon shooting. Or the futuristic gear used in IPSC action-shooting competition.

I understand your view of firearms is shallow but there is a very deep world of hobby here.

Since when does buying ANYTHING (other than food, clothing and shelter, of course) have to do with need?
