The problem is it won't be just gasoline that increases in price.
Every item from food to furniture will increase in price due to the higher shipping costs. I for one would gladly live with a little longer commute in return for a lower cost of living.
Unfortunately I believe that there are going to be longer term effects to this spike than most of us anticipate.

I guess I am a tool then.
The effects of this will probably be the push needed for people to realize that drilling for more oil cannot be solution to the problem. Maybe because of this people are going to invest in more gas efficient vehicles. Maybe more money will be put into the research and develompent of cheaper and less harmful energies. I know one thing is for sure though, less vehicles on the road means less pollution and global warming and traffic related injuries/fatalities.

What about low-mid income families that already barely getting by? People that do all those low income jobs that are essential for our country to survive. This thread really shows how dumb alot of people really are. As the cost of living goes up, i'm sorry to tell you this but the overall quality of living for EVERYONE is going to decrease.

WOW. Based on the increase of gas if you bought six 55gal drums and a pump you could save almost $200 bucks in four months or more.

Rising gas price has definitely caused people to become more intentional when they are driving, combining multiple stops in one drive and weighing the cost/benefit analysis before they turn the ignition. Rising price in all aspects is unavoidable but people are quite resilient. I hope all of us can cope with this and overcome our challenges with new innovation in alternative energy and simple exercise in disciplined consumption. Eternal optimism can be a powerful motivation for better future.

rising gas prices suck. I go to school full time pay for school, pay for my school books, finance my S2000, pay for insurance on my S2000, I'm 20, I live in NJ where insurance is like the highest in the world, and I'm a busboy at a restaurant. I can barely afford my S2k as it is and if gas keeps on going up I might have to get rid of it
