Very nice of you! Thanks! But I have a shyness when it comes to using coupons for free stuff.

Feel bad? About what? The clerk doesn't care because it's not coming out of his/her paycheck. I've used the various Barnes & Noble coupons that I've posted here on s2ki and everytime, the clerk took the coupon and knew exactly what to do with it and was as courteous to me as they were to the person before me.

If you think about it...it's a really smart marketing tool. They're bringing you in and making you spend money and giving you a freebie. It doesn't cost them that much to make an extra drink. I have stopped going to my local Barnes & Noble Cafe in the past few years but have recently stopped by and bought a drink when I knew I was in the neighborhood or was going to buy a book. If anything, they're making more money.

It's a win-win situation.

Why they put out the coupons as a marketing tool, knowing that most will not be used. It got you to the store use it. The store gets its money back on the coupons unless they are store issued, and then it's a write off anyway to marketing. Costco had a $10.00 off coupon on the price of the "Indiana Jones" DVD set so I ended up paying 32.99 + sales tax. Other stores in the area have on the shelf for as high as 64.99.

Yeah, but they also know that there's a possibility that those who DO use the coupon may look around the bookstore and possibly buy a magazine or a book. So not only are they getting you in the door to buy a drink, they're also hoping you'll buy other things.

That's the idea of coupons.

So I don't see a reason to feel bad about using the coupon.
