Last night, StealthS2K (Perry), myself and few others went to downtown Royal Oak and watched the Melbourne (Australian) F1 race on the bigscreen. As it was a bar, we only had the picture and no sound.
Jacques Villeneuve had a massive accident at turn 8 (i think)....luckily, he was ok.
Sadly, I just heard from my mother this morning that a track marshall was unfortunately killed by some flying debris from that accident.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Also, 7 other people were injured. Initial reports indicate one of the tires went flying through an opening in the fencing meant for photographers. The crash was very similar to one that killed Villeneuve's father. It's amazing -- his car hit that wall extremely hard but he exited the car and jogged back to the pits!

I think there should be more safety standards for the marshalls. They seem to be dropping like flys
I was at the Molson Indy when Krosnoff Died. It was really sureal as my buddy and I were standing not more then 50 feet from where the marshall was hit. He wasn't even looking in the same direction as the crash. He never saw it coming.

Yikes! That had to be scary being that close, I remember that wreck pretty vividly. As for the marshals getting killed... The drivers know the risks they are taking when they get behind the wheel and onto the track, I wonder how many of the volunteers who help out at these races truly know what kind of danger they are in? I'm not saying it isn't just as awful when a driver dies, but, they at least know there's that chance every time they race.
