Evolution Eight Vs S2000
#4
Well, as an owner of both the EVO 8 and an S2000, it all depends on what you are looking for. My hubby has the EVO and I have the S. When it comes down to it, I love my S more and he the EVO.
Pros for the EVO:
Spacious 4 door
Boost!!!
extremely stable at high speeds (CF wing )
comfortable and racey
minimal mods for the most power
motor's been around for a long time
looks sweet
Modified from the factory (MOMO & Brembro)
Cons for the EVO:
not convertable
gas hog!!! Expecially with spirited driving
Looks like a lancer at a glance
Pros for the S2000:
Convertable!!
Hot body of a car
Vtec
6 speed 9K redline (8K for MY04+)
comfortable interior (tight)
not bad on gas
excellent handeling (perfect for road coarse or auto-x)
The fun factor....puts a smile on your face everytime!!
Cons for the S2000:
Takes a bit to modify it internally
the famous mis-shift
oil hog
small interior
Here's some pix of our EVO and S

All around better car? That's not a good way of asking. They are two very different cars for different purposes. If you're looking for a daily driver, I suppose an Evo would be more suited, but the S still gets better gas mileage. However, you can't beat driving around in an extremely fun car with the top down and the sun beating down your face. Orgasmic!
One thing I don't like about Evo (or STI) is that it looks like a Corolla, or any other econo sedan, with a high wing and front intercooler. Definitely not pretty, but they can go. "It looks like stink, but goes like stink." is a famous quote for Evo/Sti.

We could talk all day on this subject, but the fact is, they are two entirely different cars made for two entirely different things.
Subjectively, the EVO looks like a kid's car, the S2K, a man's.

I'd pick the Evo as the better all around car. It can hold more passengers and more stuff, drive in most snow without chains, is easier to drive, and rides more comfortably when cruising (going over bumps are another matter entirely). It is faster than the S2000 in a straight line and more forgiving in the corners (it also has very, very little body roll for a sedan). Fuel economy is similar to the S2000 if both are driven in the same manner, but the Evo's tends to be a little worse because it's hard to stay off the turbo. I'd say cost of repair is probably similar for most parts. The Evo is generally regarded as being unreliable, but I honestly think it's premature to say that, because there isn't a lot of long term data available yet.
The S2000, IMO, is slower than the Evo in most situations, but more fun to drive. The shifter is superior, the engine sounds badass, and the convertible aspect is a lot of fun. It's probably also a bit more reliable, although the S2000 also tends to be a relatively low mileage car, so that's hard to say for certain. The S2000 feels bumpier than the Evo when cruising, but after you go over some bumps and road imperfections in both cars, you'll realize that they both have very stiff suspensions. The S2000 also has a much nicer interior.
The other common knock on the Evo is its looks. That's a matter of personal preference, and I'll admit that I hated the looks of the Evo when it first came out. But my buddy got one, and now that I've spent a great deal of time driving it, its looks are the last thing on my mind. It's simply an awesome car to drive.
Both are good, but being that this is an S2000 board, you can probably guess which way most of the replies will sway. Have fun choosing!

You can ask Conekiller of Cen Cali what he thinks too. He just got an EVO and has his S. Ask him on his opinions of the two and that could help you decide. As for winter and summer driving, mine's a all year car. EVO sux in the summer since if it gets too hot, you'll get heatsoak. Boost and heat dont mix well.
