does anyone know if satellite dishes can catch foreign (BBC?) coverage of the F1?

CART buys a two hour slot of air time and thats why they never have any pre-race build up or post-race show; hell, you're lucky to find out who won if it runs over. CART then sells the commercial time to others. In the end, it's always about money -- be it NASCAR, F1, CART, or IRL.

I do think there's a market for a good open-wheeled series in the states. But only one. I've always wanted it to be CART but that's not going to happen. I can't picture F1 taking off here. IRL - who knows, it doesn't do anything for me. Right now, I'd have to agree that open-wheeled racing is dead. But, maybe the Skip Barber series or something good will come out of the rubble and make the big time. All it takes is $$$$ and it could happen.

I have never seen it (live, that is) and I subscribe to all the sports channels via DTV.

Richard. The answer is definitely NO (unless you have one of those gross 12ft dish, independent satellite systems). You can only pick up BBCAmerica with a standard satellite system, and that is basically a family channel.

There is talk that Dishnet is looking at the possibility of offering unlimited European channels sometime next year - but I'm not gong to hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

Hopefully this years attendance at the US Grand Prix will clue-in the media that there is a pretty large F1 audience. <cross your fingers>

It's not on BBC. I think it's ITV now.

I know this thread is about open-wheeled racing but I wanted to mention the ALMS and IMSA racing. I've caught a few of these races on NBC ( I think ) and Speedvison and it seems like a pretty decent form of racing.

The high end prototype cars are some of the most sophisticated cars in the world, think Audi R8's, Panoz and BMW GT-R's.

I'm sure I'm going to go to the Washington DC race in 2002.

Maybe ALMS could pick up where CART & IRL have left off. As long as its road racing and high tech, I'm going to be a fan. Doesn't matter to me if you can see the wheels or not.
