Default Egghead software going out of business

a decade ago I worked at Egghead - my first job in college, and today I see they're filing for ch. 11...a sad day indeed.

Keep in mind that chapter 11 bankruptcy allows a business to be protected from its creditors while attempting to reorganize in order to repay its debts, so they really aren't "going out of business."

Richard,

Where did you see this? I thought egghead was bought out by Fry's. Are we talking about the same egghead?

I remember living in Spokane, WA (where the HQ is) and going into a local store to buy software there...awesome place! I would hate to see it go under!

Yeah, I believe this is their second Chapter11 filing. I didn't relize that a business could do that more often than every seven years. Bum deal.

I also worked for Egghead a number of years ago before they got rid of all of their stores. I thought at the time that this was a big mistake that they were making. Sad to see a company that I used to enjoy working for take such a turn for the worst.

Egghead closed all their retail stores and went completely online with egghead.com. But obviously that's not working out either...

so, educate me if you will, what is the difference when someone says they are filing for a chapter 11 vs. a chapter 13? or feel free to just point me to a resource.
