Advice to anyone and everyone, start cycling, the weight comes off amazingly quick with very little jarring on the body, just put in the time...
Good advice.

Also, meant to share earlier, but MapMyRun is a good site I use for local running routes, etc. Great for travelers like me.

I decided I want to live a little longer. I started following the advice in the book, "Dr Gundry's Diet Evolution." It'll be two weeks 'on it' this Friday. He sort of moves from Atkins-like (high protein) to Ornish-like (low fat, massive vege content) through three phases.

Pretty radical stuff mixed in with the obvious. For instance avoiding all sweet tastes, even sugar substitutes. My coffee just 'aint the same!

I have no idea if I'll stay on this diet through its three phases or not but it can't be as bad as what I usually eat...

I've been watching what I eat now going on 4 yrs. Even though I have a wife who eats what ever she wants and a 2 yr old, i still manage to maintain a healthy diet and hit the gym 5 days a week. I haven't consumed soda in years and the only thing that packs on the carbs are the beers I consume on family gatherings. My daily dose of food is:

morning: 4 egg whites, 1 cup of oatmeal
mid morning snack: low fat yogurt, fruit
lunch: chicken/tuna sandwich on whole wheat, whey protein shake
mid afternoon snack: protein bar
pre workout: casein shake stacked w/supplements
post workout: casein shake stacked w/ supplements
dinner: boneless chicken/ steak or fish w/veggies or brown rice
night snack: anything from fruit, to a bowl of cereal w/non fat milk, to yams.

I've stuck to this diet for almost 2 years now, i use to weigh 135 all through high school & college, but now I'm a solid 195 trying to reach 210. My mind just tells me to not eat unhealthy, especially being a parent now, she definitely watches what I eat and consumes the same things I do, so why not eat healthy.

Eat as many foods in their most basic form as you can. Raw fruits and veggies are ideal. The more processed/refined the food is, the more you should try to limit it. Spread out your meals, breakfast-midmorning-lunch-midafternoon-dinner-postdinner. Watch your portion sizes, especially if eating out. Water, water and more water, the best thing to drink period. Last, nothing in the temple past 8pm, no chips, no ice cream, nothing.

As otheres have said, its a lifestyle thing vs a fad diet. Take the time to plan, stay away from impulses, make it a part of your weekly routine.

u r right on!

and 2 add (if u wanna go extreme like me), only fresh/frozen vegetables, so they're not soaking in that salty garbage, and try not 2 eat much salt in other things. i personally use fake salt

happy eating! oh, and i only do clear liquors, and mix them w/club soda.

Pick up a copy of Men's Health magazine, lots of good info in there (not to be confused with other manly man fitness type magazines).

Heck, I wish I could manage some sorta weight/food intake control, but when you work in construction and on the road a lot here and there it's down right impossible to get on any kinda routine...

Plus all the bad ish tastes soooooo frikkin' good
