Anyone have much to say about the car in comparison to the S2000? or... as a 2nd car?

I have decided to sell my typhoon and get a type R (used) as my kid hauler. Just wanted some reassurance from other S2000/Type R owners that they are pleased with both cars.

Not a ITR owner, but I am on my second GSR with 170,000 combined miles (current one is at 123,000).

The Teg is a great car for a daily driver. It has lots of room with the rear seats folded down. It's FWD for the bad weather, it gets 28mpg on the highway, it's basically bullitproof, it holds it's value well, and best of all - it's a Honda.

Your first mod to the car should be a AEM CAI if not installed already - huge difference.

Not as fast as the Typhoon, but it will be alot more fun to drive.

Hey Scot

I upgraded from a 1998 R to the S2000 and I loved the R!! It was pretty pratical with the folding rear seat/hatch config and I definately recommend it as a second car.

The R was the best car for the money in my opinion.

I don't own a Type R, but I get chances to drive one quite frequently. Type R is no doubt a nice track car but I don't think it would make a perfect family car/kid hauler/ beater. The shock is way too stiff and inside the car is way too loud for everyday use, especially when you already have a loud/stiff car like S2000.
The new WRX might be what you need?

I don't actually haul my kids very far in my cars... my wife has a big gas guzzlin SUV for that.

Had a '97 Type R and a '96 GSR. As a family hauler, I would pick the GSR - nearly as fast, less money, easier to find used, easier suspension, and IMHO the engine sound to max RPM seemed better.

Don't get me wrong, the R was / is an awesome car, but for daily driving, the GSR would probably be better. Don't forget, no cruise or sunroof on the R and AC was an option (at least in 97 it was). Also, no rear wiper on the R until 98.

You guys aren't very encouraging... I had a 98 4 door gsr and thought it sucked. I used to drag the small wheelwheel mud flap things in turns, the suspension was soo soft.. the tires were horrible...and it really wasn't very fast.

O well.... the 97 i am getting does have A/C.

Hey Scot, are there any dealers up your way that can get in a yellow 2001 type R. My girlfriend has dismissed the idea of getting an IS300, didn't want those huge payments, and is looking for a type R. She has an LS right now and wants some more pep. We tried Jones Acura and they had a black one, but she doesn't want black and their allotment is up for the year. We could try Apple Acura, but they suck, so we'd rather not get one at all than get one from them. Are their any Acura dealers up in Harrisburg that can still get one in? Most of them are done with the RSX's on the way. She likes them, but they're going to get played out just like the Celicas did.

Sounds good man. You're beginning to aquire a nice collection of toys. I got on Acura.com and found a list of dealers in the area. There's one out in Reading, Philly, West Chester, and several in Maryland. So I'll call around and see what I come up with.

Matt.
