Guess it's time to cut back on driving even more than we have been.

I have been wondering for a couple of weeks if it is the distributers and gas stations getting their due by over charging for gas now that crude is low.
OPEC has started to realize that they have very little control over the price of oil. a couple of weeks they cut production by 2mil bpd and the price dropped $2.

60 min did a fine assessment last week.
1. Fuel prices are disconnected from spot markets, from oil prices.
2. Demand is down, US refineries are shutting down production for "maintenence" , overall supply of crude is stable.
3. US production is: Oil - production: 8.457 million bbl/day (2007 est.)
Oil - consumption: 20.68 million bbl/day (2007 est.)
Oil - exports: 1.165 million bbl/day (2005)
Oil - imports: 13.71 million bbl/day (2005)

Is there any reason why the government hasn't gotten into the refinery business? Seems like fuel prices are fairly important to the health of the economy.

Criticisms, yes; random, unprovoked insults... not necessary.

I'm generally pretty moderate, and don't agree with all of Obama's policies; I just find its getting obnoxious that there are so many people slinging mud for no particular reason other than their guy lost. Now, that being said, of course that's going to happen, people are idiots. But still, let's move on and try some unity for once... it might help.
Don't know about most of you all, but I take Obama at his word. To date he has not backed down on spending and taking out private sector business. All of which has a direct effect on the price of everything. Gas prices just one of them. Here is an example from today. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090126/ap_on_...reenhouse_gases
GM and Ford have been dealing with congress killing them for the past 16 or so years. This I am sure will kill at least one of the 3.

Do you really want unity? Or people who will try to stop some of this?
