Meh. The diplomat wasn't even raped with a nightstick. No harm, no foul.

On the other hand, our friends the Chinese have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar of U.S. secrets before. Might the poor wayward diplomat have been Chinese intelligence out for a little mischief in a car he didn't want ID'd easily? Nah, governments would never use a consulate for those kinds of games. Mr. diplomat may have got what was coming to him.

 

Diplomats can still be detained or arrested to maintain public safety or prevent serious criminal acts. They can also be issued traffic and parking citations. The diplomat should have stopped, but the cops should not have performed an arrest.
