So anybody with no license plates hauling ass towards a consulate should be exempt? That's absoludacris!
This is why there is a diplomat license plate, special ID etc, so that they can identify themselves.
I'm sure there is dash footage, but since this a sensitive foreign policy situation and the department of state is involved I highly doubt this tape will be released immediately to the public.
If he had pulled over & identified himself he might have received a police escort to the consulate

The Chineese consulate did not comment whatsoever on the license plate and if or if not it was missing.
I had a bogus beat from a pig who ticketed me for obstructed license plate, because he could not see it... this was very quickly thrown out of court. The fat lazy piece of shit was just making crap up for an excuse to pull me over and show me how jealous he was that I am successful and he's just a fat meter maid. The can and will make up shit for a reason just to pull someone over and play gotcha games.

Beating a foreign diplomat (Chinese no less, as China is now an economic superpower and the U.S. has borrowed billions of $ from them), good things will come to those cops.

So there's no debating that the diplomat didn't stop for the police. His own fault.
Nowhere in international law or in practice has it been said that a diplomat will never have to identify themselves. They are required to prove who they are, and they'll be exempt from local laws, within reason.
Too bad the guy got hurt, but maybe he'll indentify himself as a diplomat next time and avoid a huge situation.

I'm not buying what the cop's story one bit.
It's kind of hard to believe that some diplomat is driving around town "without" a plate. It's like trying to intentionally pick a fight. It serve no purpose to them. I don't know about you guys, but I know that it's not the first day that cops learn to start making up story fully or partially to cover their behinds.....after they stepped on some deep dodos. Unless I see a police cruiser cam that prove otherwise.....good luck to those cops.
Regardless of the offense, all jurisdiction ends at a foreign country's consulate. Just look at ours overseas. They have a small army stationed at each one in case someone wants to mess around. Saying they didn't know the building was just a half-ass attempt for an excuse. They should feel lucky to made it out of there alive or in one piece.
