As much as I feel for someone in a tough situation, a lack of preparation isn't an excuse to break laws. For example: I don't have enough money to buy food. I am caught shoplifting from a store to steal food and I get caught. Am I no longer guilty of stealing because I needed to steal in this dire situation?


PS My first thought when I see the world Ambulance is now always of Amber Lamps. I was very tempted to post a meme.

 

Insurance or not, you can still pay for an ambulance out of pocket. They're expensive but it is still a better option.

 

Wheres the IBTK? Also, why would the cop resign if paid vacation is waiting for him??

 

I'm not sympathizing with him. I simply stated a fact from the news article b/c someone else asked.


I think that Webster dictionary should add an entry for "amberlamps" as an alternate word to ambulance.
use "that lawyer didn't do well in school but now that's he's an amberlamps chaser, he's quite wealthy".

 

I've gotten pulled over in that very town, and let me tell you what, those cops are straight up crooked. Got pulled over because a taillight was out. Later when I checked, the taillight was fine. Cop asked to search the car for drugs. When we refused, they threatened to take us to jail. It was already 2:30 am, so I gave in. Of course they didn't find anything.

 

I find it kind of hard to blame the cop too much because it looked like it took the guy way to long to pull over and yes he could be making up an emergency.

Plus on my hierarchy of people I like, cops come before really old people. They just clog up the roads and meander through grocery stores bitching about social security and using up perfectly good food and oxygen.

 

I had that happen to me. The cop was a complete a-hole, but I wouldn't say crooked. I think he just profiled me (including the car), and thought he'd find drugs in there.

 

Some of you have conveniently ignored the fact that in a medical emergency, an ambulance has no privileges a private car does not. The flashing lights are there to better alert other drivers, that's it. It's not like ambulance drivers get a free pass to drive like idiots because of their employer - it's because *there's a medical emergency.*

So a private vehicle with the flashers on being driven to the hospital in a medical emergency is, for all practical purposes and intents, an "ambulance."

Most communities have penalties for detaining an ambulance driver. The officer in question should have responded by escorting the truck to the hospital, not by brandishing a gun and making an ass of himself. The pathetic loser should have gone to jail for assault. I'm glad he quit. Should have been fired.

 

So any officer that stops someone in an emergency should automatically believe them?

The guy was driving a far longer distance, erratically, for an "emergency"? If it was such an emergency, he'd have gone for the closest hospital that was ten minutes away instead of the farthest one that was forty minutes away.

Also, at least everywhere I have lived, an ambulance can cross a red light, jump traffic, and speed. That is not a RIGHT or PRIVELEGE accorded any private citizen, no matter their emergency.

 

Two words:

Amber Lamps.
