This was in the local paper; that town is just ten miles south of my house (I think - I can't see the video since I'm at work but it is almost definitely the same one)/
A couple possible issues there:
1. He could've gone south to the hospital in Livingston and saved himself 25 miles of driving.
2. He didn't notify law enforcement of his emergency and was reported as speeding and weaving in and out of traffic (ie, dangerous driving for an extended period of time).
Was the cop overbearing? Sure. However, lots of people claim emergencies when they get stopped and very often, those emergencies are made up on the spot.

Yes, but I'm sure that situation was spur of the moment too.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic there, but very often people DO make up "emergencies" or exaggerate the dire nature of a situation in the hope of being cut some slack.
And I'm sure plenty of people make up excuses to get out of a ticket but that judgement call should have been a given.

Quik hit the nail on the head, if you need medical attention, you call an ambulance. How many times more likely to get in an accident do you think a person is when they're driving in an emergency?
My old buddy was rushing to the hospital in his vette because his baby was being born, and he ended being intercepted by the police, and ultimately a spike strip. He was travelling from roughly 2 hours away and he made it to roughly 5 minutes from the hospital. When he said his baby was being born, the police didn't believe him and stripped the interior of his car right in front of him before "calling his bluff" and taking him to the hospital. The let him go there but he ultimately fought the charges and won.
If he were smart, he would've annouced his arrival to the police so it was at least logged that he was about to be speeding somewhat to the hospital.
