The cops don't use radar anymore. They use laser almost exclusively now. Radar detectors are mostly useless now.
I want to say 99% of the states use it except for the rich rich areas. Laser is still expensive, and most PD don't have the budget to it.
Radardectctor.net.. is the best. Members will tell you what signals are used in which state/city.

When do you think the CHP bought their last radar unit? If there are any in the field they are EOL and will go in the dump with the cruiser its attached to.
Nobody has bought a new radar unit in 5+ years
Laser is cheaper than radar, to purchase and maintain. It has been for a while. Unless you're stopped by a deputy named Enos then you were probably busted by laser.
Laser guns like the LTI TruSpeed are ~$1500.

With laser, it's almost impossible to pick up them pinging people near you, and once the RD has warned you of laser, it's basically too late.

I find that it's about half and half around here for laser/radar..
Around town radar, on the freeway's laser.
I use a V1 to thwart the bastards, I couldn't see the point without the arrows.
Soon may be purchasing a "parking aid" (laser jammer).
The look on the cops face when his laser is jammed is priceless.

I just started using the Escort Redline I bought in December. It replaces the Passport 8500 that was starting to go a little squirrely lately. It was a tough choice on what to upgrade to, but I decided that sensitivity was what I was looking for. And that's what the Redline offers in spades.
I also use a Blinder 20 Laser jammer up front. It works very well.
I think with the budget crunches being directed at states and municipalities, there will be less and less police patrolling highways in the near future. I don't think they can afford to upgrade/replace their current inventory of speed detection devices either.
