Default cop radar/radar jammer

so i was wondering what radar to get the
after my speeding ticket im willing to spend around 200 dollars.
or will a 200 dollar cop rader be worthless?

Cop radars in Co are perfectly legal while jammers are not.
is anyone running a jammer in a state where its illegal and
what are the consequences if you get pulled over because the cop could not get a speed of your vehicle due to the jammer?

sorry i tried searches ):

Radar is under FCC jurisdiction. Radar jammers are illegal and it's a federal offense. You don't want to mess with the feds.

Are you referring to laser jammers, which vary by state?

FYI "cop radars" are what the police use to measure your speed. A radar detector is what you use to detect police radar.

What happens in other states is irrelevant to you as things vary by state. You need to be familiar with the law in Colorado specifically.

They start at $400, depending on how you define worthwhile. The range extends well beyond that.

Spend some time on a site like radardetector.net. S2ki isn't really the go-to reference for this sort of info, IMO. I mean, you go to an S2K forum site for info on the S2k, right? Go to an appropriate site for info on radar detectors and so on.

This thread really should be in the Electronics subforum.

Very few things in this world are one-size-fits-all and those that are rarely work best for everyone. Anyone shopping needs to perform their due diligence. The higher end RD makers typically give you 30 days to return so if your research doesn't lead you to a suitable RD don't rule out the others entirely. The V1 is a very good RD but, say, the 9500ix may be better suited for some. Other models may be better suited for yet even other people.

I personally prefer the V1 despite the frequently parroted advice of "V1 on the highway, 9500ix in the city" (very roughly 80% of my driving is city). However, YMMV and blindly recommending an option as the way to go seems pointless to me as it doesn't even attempt to consider the potential buyer's preferences.

The V1 is infamous for being chatty as even with its filtering it tends to go off for all sorts of things in the city that aren't police radar or laser. People can and do adjust its programming to reduce this but there's the potential risk of eliminating an alert for actual police radar (particularly if you've programmed the V1 and travel out of your home area). The arrows are very popular and often touted as a killer feature. I find them very useful but not everyone does. VR's patent on them is about to expire as well.

RD's such as the 9500ix include GPS filtering to reduce alerts at lower speeds when you're not likely to be speeding and to eventually filter out the false alerts in fixed locations (such as automatic door openers that many stores use). That said, there are reported incidents of the 9500ix locking out actual police radar so caveat emptor. The 9500ix and its ilk also have a database of things such as red light cameras, speed cameras, etc though updating is a manual process that requires connecting the RD to a PC as well as payment/subscription to updates. Escort's RD's offer an advanced display mode that will report the frequency of the radar and people find this useful if they're familiar with the specific frequencies used by law enforcement in their area.

None of this even touches on the various other options out there. Keep in mind that the V1 and the 9500ix aren't the only options worth considering. Also keep in mind that I've probably overlooked or forgotten other things that may or may not be important to anyone reading this (e.g. off-axis detection, ramping, quick trigger handling, etc).

Is it possible to disable the "X" band, on the V1?

Thanks,
