While perhaps the kid is in fact experiencing GID, having the parents get on the puberty-blockers seems harmful to me.

There again, DSM-IV is not hot reading for me either.

Knowing Omaha (and Nebraska in general), I predict that Ben/Katie will be HUGELY popular with his/her classmates.

Yes. I am being sarcastic.

If he feels he is a girl then let him be a girl... why does society always think they know whats best for everyone... let the HUMAN live it's life and quit interferring. If you want to walk in front of a bus have fun but just because you do it doesn't mean I'm going to.

Tula Cassey, former Bond girl was born a boy. Or at least half boy, half girl.

when I was a kid, I didn't want to go to school. does that mean I shouldn't have gone?

growing up, I had a friend across the street who had a little sister (the friend and I were 10, she was 2 or 3) and she always took off her cloths and ran around the house. does that mean her family should have just allowed her to run around everywhere naked?

see where I'm going with this?

Developmentally, 8 is very young.

The DSM is sadly on my shelf, but there are plenty of problems with it too IMO. Far too many to get into here.
