Anyone here lived in both NYC and LA?

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I've thought it over a bit and am kind of leaning toward LA at the moment. I've wanted to move back there ever since leaving, and I think I'd regret not doing so... Plus I tend to enjoy driving, motorcycles, snowboarding, having a beer and a smoke and hanging out on the beach, and so forth, which I'd probably miss over on the east coast.

I used to live in Des Moines, Iowa. If you want cheap expenses and lots of space, Iowa ftw! God, I hated that place! Man, reading your posts makes me want to live in both NYC and LA for a change.

I thought it was NY but I read somewhere that the most expensive place to live in the U.S. is the SF/bay area.
It's still cheaper to get 600 sq. ft in SF than 600 sq. ft in Lower Manhattan. There's also other total costs to consider (food, meals, )

It vacillates between the two every year. Right now, there's a small slump in Bay Area prices. Also, if you average in all of NYC (all the boroughs) vs. The Bay Area, there's larger stretches of the Bay Area with higher average prices.

Just throwing this option out there since I haven't heard it yet (maybe because you're not considering it):
Have you considered living outside of NYC? There are some VERY nice townships in NJ that are within a half hour train ride to Manhatten. Some places that come to mind are Summit, Chatham, Short Hills, etc... Real Estate can be VERY expensive in these areas but are probably in line or less with NYC $/sq foot. You can have a car, enjoy a yard, have the personal space needed and still be close to work.
Just another option to consider.

I've never been to California, but I'm in NYC a lot since my Girlfriend goes to school in Manhattan. It's a fun place to be, there is a lot of excitement and alway's something to do. I wouldn't own a car there, seeing as parking is a lot of money, and I wouldn't want to park my car on the street there since I've seen over 20 cars get backed into in a 6 Month period. Overall, depending on where in NYC you'd live, you would enjoy it if you like the big city atmosphere. I just hope they will pay you well, seeing as nothing in NYC is cheap, except the food in China town. I personally wouldn't want to live there, I'm not much of a city guy. The hustle and bustle is outrageous, and I don't see myself going days without seeing trees and grass. I'll take my suburban home anyday haha.
