I tend to drink it neat (and I did) but can say that a little Chateau Du Hetch Hetchy would have opened it up.

While in GA, I also picked up a bottle of Mitcher's Small Batch. Nose is mild, yet full, not much of anything caught my attention. Right away I'm slammed with almond flavor. Really caught me off guard, but the finish is smooth as can be and pleasing. It's not sweet, but it has little to no bite and is quite smooth. I really taste nothing else but the almond flavor though. This could actually be considered a freakin' almond liqueur if I know it wasn't made of corn. If there is any different drinking straight, I'll post up. I drink bourbon on the rocks, so the water most definitely is a determining factor when bringing flavors out.




Putting this one between Baker's and 1792, a bit on the lower end since I like a bit more bite and not the overwhelming almond overload.

EDIT: Almond flavor subsided tonight (9/9), maybe it was just me but did become a better bourbon after opening!

Polished off the Mitcher's and we are on to the Jefferson's. Nose is mild but bold...you can tell you have a fine bourbon from the getgo. Palette is full-bodied and oaky, good bite, but a strange, tangy finish. I really like though and I'm going to put it right above knob creek @ #4. At $53 a bottle, it's not a great value, but a damn fine bourbon!

 

OK before I even open this I must say I'm not expecting much. At $25 a bottle, I'm going to be surprised if Buffalo Trace is any better than say Bulleit. That said...Im running out of good bourbon to try, I'm around the 20th bottle mark, and tried Corner Creek and Reservoir (very expensive and rare) at DBR and both were exceptional.



EDIT: Nose has a bite and is a bit sweet of oak. Pallette is smoother than expected, full bodied, but the finish is non-complex, simple and leaving me wanting. I have to say I think this is slightly better than Bulleit though, and will but this just right above it at #11. Very middle-of-the-road, as to be expected...with exceptions of Woodford and Black Maple Hill...you get what you pay for.

EDIT2: Putting this one at #13 actually...the more I drink it, the more it tastes like dirt (literally, dirt).

 

I looked at the Buffalo, but still got the Jack....

 

One of the best cocktails I ever had, had Buffalo Trace as the base. The corn does you good.

Actually, it was a variation on a Manhattan, with something replacing the vermouth. . . green chartreuse (or something equally odd).

 

Highland's Black Mocha Stout...imho the best beer Highland's makes :thumbsup:
