I picked up a 1-liter bottle of Caol Ila - another Islay Scotch - on my last trip home from Toronto. Not bad.

On an irish whiskey kick while in baltimore and while at a pub discovered Jameson 18 year. I asked how much a 2 oz pour was and they said it was a 1.5 oz pour and $27! So I looked up the bottle price and it was $105. Lo and behold, I found a bottle (for that price) in some hole in the wall liquor store in downtown baltimore.

Very nice presentation. The box is excellent, sturdy, and well made and packaged. Light nose and a medium color. Palate is remarkably smooth, and finish to remotely oaky and leaves something to be desired considering the price tag. I would say I'd rather drink Blanton's for half the price tag. Elijah 18 yr is far more complex and flavorful. Is this worth the price tag? No.

(both are distilled spirits, but that's about where any reasonable comparison ends)
Irish Whiskey:Bourbon::Apple:Oranges
(both are fruits, but that's about where any reasonable comparison ends)

There's a reason most liquor stores separate it from both the Scotches and the Bourbons. . .

Is this worth the price tag? No.
For my friends who like the Irish whiskey, I'll go for a Tully 12 (under $50).

I can come up with about several things that can reasonably compare irish whiskey to bourbon...but I digress. I was speaking simply from a frame of reference.

I really enjoyed the bottle of Redbreast 12 year I had equally was well as the 18 yr Jameson.

Nice Dad tried to score me some more pappy, but all that he could get was a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year (reviewed in this thread already). They are now putting it in the same style bottles as the older year bourbons too as not to segregate it too much. Havent opened it yet, as I still had some Jefferson's to polish off.

Ill be honest. The 10 year is harsh. I'd rather be drinking Woodford for the money.

Hey Brett.... try anything tasty lately?

Just cracked open a bottle of Barrell batch 004.... pretty tasty!

Also some 12 yr WL Weller.... also very good...

Still have bottles of 10 yr McKenna and Blade and Bow to open.....

Head to Cincy and we'll open them up and try them!

Plus heading down to bourbon country next week (business trip! ) Got any suggestions on what to buy?
