val i bought mine from someone who owed money on it. you have to pay the bank that has your title in order for them to release the title.

Once you pay off the bank or loan office, they will write a letter to the new owner which is a lien release paper, depending where you got the loan it could be right there on the spot or a few days. My seller had to wait a day or two for the money to clear into his account and It took me a few days to get that letter in the mail and we went through chase. The only problem with this is the new owner is gonna have to wait to put the car on the road, but like i said depending where you went, they all do things different. Hope this helps!
