Yesterday while on my way home some guy in the car next to me with an Italian accent asked me how to get to Kennedy Airport. The light turned red and he talked wbout how he worked for Georgio Armani and the show ( I assumed he meant Fashion Week) was over and he was on his way back to Milan. He thanked me for directions and asked me to pull over and he would give me his card (in case I ever go to Italy). He seemed pleasant enough. Now the light changed and against my better judgement I pulled over. I thought that I would not get out of the car in case he wanted to jack my S. There was another guy with him. He came over to the car and talked about the car and the leather jacket I was wearing. He then asked me to come over to his car. And again against better judgement I did. I shut the S off and stuffed the key deep in my pocket. When I got over to his car he opened the back door and he showed me about 6 high quality leather jackets. They appeared to be Armani. They had the big giant eagle tag and some italian writing on the tag. He also had two large blue bags with the same Italian writing on it. He put 3 jackets in the bag and placed it in my hand. He first made a show of lighting the plastic bag with a lighter so I could see it melt and then he did the same to one of the jackets, but as it was leather it did not melt. He told me to take the bag of jackets then he asked if I have brothers or someone to give the other jackets to. Of course I do. Then he put the other 3 jackets in the other bag and told me I could take both of the bags. There was another ladies' jacket on the seat. It was suede. He asked if i have a wife or GF that would like it? What size is she? I can give you these other jackets but .... and now there was a problem in translation. He tried to explain that he could not take the jackets back or that he can give some of them away or something. But now the twist. He told me take the 6 mens' jackets FREE but the lady's jacket is worth 600 bucks. Can you give me 600 dollars? I immediately answered no. Well how much can you give me? I refused to answer and put the bags back in his car. Then he said you won't offend me. Make an offer. I am a very rich man. Then he showed me a wad of bills. The first 1 or 2 were hundred dollar bills. Something was fishy. But what?
What wasn't sitting too good with me:
1. Because I told him directions to the airport he offered to give me 2 or 3 thousand dollars in Georgio Armani leather coats. Six coats. I can only wear one at a time.
2. Why if he is a rich man do I need to buy one of the coats why didn't he just give me one?
3. Rich people don't flaunt their money like that. I've been around awhile and it could be a stack of paper with a $100 bill on the top.
4. He told me to pull over to exchange business cards but when I pressed him for his card he took an Armani brochure and threw it in the bag and told me that his number is there.
5. If it sounds to good to be true.....

I put the two bags back in his car, thanked him and quickly got back in my car and drove away.

So guys...What was the angle? What was in it for him? Where is the scam? What would have happened if I gave him some money and took the jackets?? I've been around but I can't figure this one out.

this happened to me before in a mall parking lot, the guy got mad when i said i didnt have any money to give him... those people are funny

 

Someone here at work just asked me if it happened near the mall? Yeah it did. He told me the guy he met had a stereo and a leather jacket for 150 bucks.

 

Seems probably stolen and looking to unload them fast for nothing.

 

ive experienced similar but was a home theater set-up dude wanted some cash for it. but strange he wanted to give you stuff and sell you some other jacket.

i deff understand your weariness of the situation but was he requiring you bought the womens jacket in order to have the others?

maybe you should have taken the jackets he gave you to your trunk then discussed and declined the womens jacket.

possible the jackets were 20$ each and he wanted to see if youd bite and give him 4-5 hundred for the one knock off...even with the 5 jackets at 20 a peice hed still be making off with 3-4 hundred.
